Barbecue grill charcoal

Barbecue grill charcoalWhen choosing a barbecue grill, charcoal or gas should be the first question you ask yourself. The debate over which type of grill is better has gone on ever since the first gas grill was produced. The various arguments have only become hotter with each passing year.

Most true barbecue aficionados tend to end up on the side of charcoal. While gas grills offer the convenience of simply pushing a button and grilling, these grills do not provide the smoky flavor of a real barbecue. Charcoal on the other hand, provides the natural flavors that can only be achieved through a degree of smoke. This is especially true when a small amount of hardwood is added to the mix. It’s for this reason that barbecue enthusiasts almost always prefer using a charcoal grill.

When using a barbecue grill, charcoal and hardwood offer the most authenticity. After all, a barbecue is meant to mimic the process of cooking food over an open fire. It’s a practice that predates history, and as such has an almost archaic sensibility. Outdoor cooking is something that is something that has brought family and friends together since the beginning of time, and in order to truly experience the traditional tastes of this type of cooking, charcoal grills are the only way to go.

For patios with limited space for a barbecue grill, charcoal grills should also be considered. As a general rule, they are much smaller than most gas grills, and therefore take up less space. However, due to the amount of flame that charcoal produces once it’s lit, it is important to remember to keep the grill away from anything that could be flammable. Any time an open flame grill is used on a wooden deck or around dry foliage, they should be consistently monitored.

If cost is an issue when purchasing a barbecue grill, charcoal again is a good option. The vast majority of charcoal grills tend to be less expensive than their gas counterparts. The main reason is that they do not require gas lines and control dials making them much less expensive to manufacture. Simple charcoal grills can be found for well under $100, but even the high quality charcoal grills can be purchased relatively inexpensively.

Charcoal grills can sometimes be used as smokers as well. The easiest way is to place a small metal container full of thoroughly water-soaked wood chips in the middle of the grill, surrounded by charcoal. Once the charcoal has been lit, it will begin to heat up the metal container to the point that the wood chips will begin to smoke. Once this happens, just place the meat on the grill, close the lid, and let the smoke do the cooking.

Finally, when it comes to a barbecue grill, charcoal can provide much higher temperature ranges. This makes them ideal for obtaining that seared and charred exterior on steaks and chicken. While it sometimes takes 15-20 minutes for a charcoal grill to reach the appropriate temperature, most people insist it’s worth the wait.
